Artist's Comments
My definition of bittersweet: young soldier writes to his sweetheart back home from his cold foxhole in the backdrop of WWII. I've always liked this pitch but I never got to work on it til an aquaintance from another website requested so. What's funny, i completed this on June 6th -the anniversary of D-day. (that's what you call ironic)
My initial inspiration came from the movie Enemy at the Gates. Then recently i watched Band of Brothers and I loved the character Eugene Roe in all of his scenes, especially in the bastogne episode. I basically based this on his character. I also have a thing for sharpshooters (there's something cool and coldblooded about snipers  -turns me on) So I did a bit of research on their kind of weapons and added one in. |

The softness coloring realy emphaizes the sensitive side of war. Seeing this image brings feelings of concern and compassion for those overseas (this includes people on both sides), especially when one of my family members in the military travels there. This image is a part of war that they don't usually show in those. "Jon the Military" ads and it has been expressed very well.
